Gerrard: "Ferguson and Mourinho wanted me"
Steven Gerrard has grown in recent years into absolute club icon of Liverpool, but it had very nearly he had this season the shirt of Manchester United, Chelsea or Real Madrid worn. The three top teams in the past Gerrard tried to seduce.
Gerrard did in 2004 seriously considering a transfer to Chelsea, but gave the then manager Jose Mourinho still zero on the petition.
"Chelsea wanted me as very much, but I loved when so much of Liverpool ... Nobody wants that just flushed down the toilet," says the now 32-year-old captain of theDaily Mail . When Mourinho to Real Madrid two years ago switched, the Portuguese ventured another attempt.
"He knocked again, but I did not want to quarrel with Liverpool leave. I have seen clubs like Real and FC Barcelona players with their deal. I did not. Liverpool has given me so much over the years."
Besides Mourinho is also Sir Alex Ferguson a great admirer of Gerrard. "It's a great compliment when the two best managers in the world have you on their team," said the Englishman.
"But playing for Manchester United for a Liverpool man like me is impossible. The sentiments are so sensitive, a move to United, I never forgive myself."
